Poet at the Wedding Feast

Histories, what are they meant for
If not to be made?

Records, what are they meant for
If not to be broken?

Stories, what are they meant for
If not to be told?

My eyes have seen a princess
Arrayed in the regalia of freshness
Upon whose head the stars generously sprinkled their beams
Around whose feet the sun worshiped

I have seen a prince
Full of life and strength
Whose throne is of majesty drunk with conquest

When the stories of this age are told
Let it be said that Prince Abiodun
The man from a thousand hills of gold
Takes his bride, Princess Ife
The jewel of the greeny plans of excellence
In the Federal Capital of Nigeria
That a glorious family is born
And I, the travelling bard is a witness of these things
